Mount Kinabalu is situated in the island of Borneo, South East Asia. In Borneo, there are 3 nations – Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Kinabalu is in the state of Sabah, one of the state for Malaysia.

To get to Mount Kinabalu (from anywhere around the world), you must find a way to get to the capital of Malaysia first, before proceeding to Sabah. The easiest way is by aeroplane and head to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The only way to get to Sabah is by aeroplane, (either MAS, the nation's national carrier or Airasia, the nation's low cost carrier). The aeroplane will arrive in Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and the journey will take about 2 1/2 hours. There are other direct international flight from neighbouring countries, but you have to make queiries to the respective airline company.

From the airport, you have to go to Kota Kinabalu main bus station (currently in Inanam) to get a transport to Mount Kinabalu. From there, you have to take either taxi or bus to get to Kinabalu Park HQ. The journey there will take another 2 hours, on a winding and uphill road.
